    Description

None of these 1812 dated halfpenny tokens were actually made in 1812. The originals were copper and struck on dies made by Thomas Halliday. Joseph Tiffin, a Montreal grocer imported these and began circulating them, the 1812 date was to evade laws prohibiting the import of tokens into Canada. During the 1832-36 time frame a number of imitations appeared. I believe this coin to be one of the imitations and consistent with Charlton LC-48B2.
