Description
This neat old copper is a coin variety that has been much studied, but remains a numismatic enigma. Listed by Wood with the Canadian Blacksmith tokens, it does appear to have circulated in Canada and the American border states, but also may have circulated in Ireland. No one has been able to pinpoint its place or date of origin. Though Jim Biancarosa made a case for Vermont. The condition of this example looks to support the contention that these pieces enjoyed much circulation in commerce.
Sized about 26mm & 5.9g. up/down axis, plain edge.
